- Show that he or she can use reading to get information or for enjoyment.
- Read at least 25 books for information or entertainment, talk about them, and retell them in his or her own words.
- Share personal experiences that connect to a story he or she read.
- Write a story with a beginning, middle and ending.
- Follow directions that have three steps.
- Use details and examples when speaking.
- Check his or her work for spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Tell the difference between fact and fantasy, as well as fact and fiction.
