Make a difference!
  • Ask your child what he or she is doing in school, talk about how important school is, and praise your child's work.
  • Keep books, magazines and newspapers in your home.
  • Encourage your child to read every day, read along with him or her, and make sure your child sees you reading regularly.
  • Give your child a regular time and a quiet place to do homework.
  • Limit TV. When you do watch TV, talk about what you see.
  • Encourage your child to write often - in a diary, journal, letter or e-mail.
  • Introduce yourself to your child's teachers and principal.
  • Attend parent-teacher conferences.
  • Don't hesitate to contact your child's school to ask questions, address a problem or get a progress report.
  • Volunteer for a school activity. Join a parent group or site council.
