My name is Brett Bakko and I would like to welcome you to Second grade at Adams Spanish Immersion School. I am looking forward to an exciting year of learning and exploring with your child. I am looking forward to meeting all of the families as well. It will be a great year!
This is my third year of teaching at Adams and third year in Second grade. I taught 3 years in New Mexico prior to moving back to Minnesota. I am a MN native and now live here in St. Paul with my wife Katy, son Owen and daughter Esme. Katy is a social worker in the Robbinsdale School District. Owen is 5 and is in Kinder here at Adams this year! Esme is only 18 months, so she will have to wait awhile before starting school. I’m sure they will come to visit our classroom many times throughout the year.
Newsletters and homework will go out on Mondays and homework will be due on Fridays. We will also have a spelling test every Friday from the weekly words. I will send a daily schedule home when we have one. Thanks!

Estimadas familias de Segundo grado,
Me llamo Brett Bakko y me gustaría dar la bienvenida a Segundo grado a la escuela Adams Spanish Immersion. Estoy emocionado y será un año muy divertido para aprender y explorar con su niño/a. Espero que yo pueda conocer las familias de todos los niños también. Será un año excelente.
Este es mi segundo año enseñando en Adams y el segundo año en Segundo grado. Enseñé 3 años en Nuevo México antes de regresar a Minnesota. Soy un nativo de MN y ahora vivo aquí en St. Paul con mi esposa Katy, mi hijo Owen y mi hija Esme. ¡Owen ya tiene 5 años y está en Kinder este año aquí en Adams! Esme solo tiene 18 meses, así que ella tiene que esperar un rato antes de que puede empezar en la escuela. Estoy seguro que vendrán a visitar el salón de clase muchas veces en el año.
El noticiero y la tarea para la semana se mandan cada lunes y la tarea debe ser entregada cada viernes. Tendremos un examen pequeño de ortografía cada viernes sobre las palabras de la semana. Les mandaré un horario del día cuando tenemos un examen. ¡Gracias!

Homework
Homework will be sent home each Monday and should be turned in by Friday. Homework will usually consist of 3 math worksheets as well as the 10 Spanish "words of the week" and the 7 English "words of the week." There will be a spelling test at the end of each week covering these vocabulary and high-frequency words. Some weeks we may be working on a special project and the students will be asked to work on these at home. Please try to read with your child @ 20 minutes a day in English or Spanish. Thanks!

La tarea se manda en casa cada lunes y se debe entregar cada viernes. Generalmente, tendremos 3 hojas de matemáticas y las palabras de la semana, 10 en español y 7 en inglés. Habrá un examen de ortografía cada viernes sobre las palabras de la semana. Algunas semanas estaremos trabajando en proyectos especiales en que los estudiantes pueden trabajar en casa. Favor de leer con su hijo/a @ 20 minutos cada día en español o inglés. ¡Gracias!
